Tune In Program/Community Concert & Workshop Series

West End Cultural Centre

Website: http://www.wecc.ca/site09/community-overview.html

The WECC offers free community concerts, workshops, and youth music lessons to residents, predominantly in the West Central Community. The WECC searches for new and innovative ways to connect the arts and the community.

About The Program

The Tune in program offers basic instruction on drums, guitar and keyboards. We have also had workshops on African drumming, Japanese drumming, Aboriginal drumming, unusual instruments, hip hop dance, improv, and musical theatre. In the past we have had "Songscape" where local kids participated in a spring break workshop that involved photography, painting, songwriting, video-making, and ended with a public presentation of their work.

Community Concert & Workshop Series - Each year, the WECC welcomes over 700 youth from local schools and after-school programs into the centre as part of our free Community Concert and Workshop Series. The Concert Series provides an opportunity for youth to experience a live show in a real theatre, while the Workshop series provides a hands-on experience with professional instructors in such areas as dance, drums, musical theatre, improv, and much more.
